  • Android 12 may have a new in-depth theme system
  • It will allow users to choose a primary color and an accent color.
  • It can even help to recolor applications.

The first preview of the Android 12 developer seems to be on the horizon. We’ve seen a lot of rumors about the new software recently, and people at 9to5Google are responsible for many of them. New information discovered by the publication suggests that Android 12 could get a new extensive theme system.

Currently, switching between light and dark themes is the only major visual adjustment you can make to change the appearance of the UI and apps on your Android phone. Pixel smartphones go further and offer settings for customizing accent colors, but even those are limited to places like the quick settings area

With Android 12, Google is reportedly focused on an in-depth theme system. This will allow you to select a primary color and an accent color that will not only recolor the UI extensively, but also the third-party applications that support the functionality.

The primary color should reflect in the background of the Quick settings and notification shade drop-down list. 9to5Google created an approximate model of how this could be.

The best part is that even the apps on your phone can get the primary and accent colors you choose. That’s if developers integrate the new Android 12 theme system into their apps. In comparison, apps on Android 11 can only change from dark to light according to your phone’s settings.

In addition, Android 12 should also be able to change themes according to your wallpaper. Therefore, when you change the wallpaper, the system can automatically choose the corresponding theme colors to recolor the UI and applications.

All of this looks great, but Android 12 is not here yet and not all of the initial features make it to the final version. So we’ll have to wait and see if Google takes this theme system seriously and what app developers think of it.
