Android 12 DP2: the media player UI uses the accent color of the system

With the fall of Android 12 Developer Preview 12, Google is changing the accent color of the media player UI to match the system theme, instead of playing any content.

Although it is not a huge change at first, it alters the prominence of certain parts of your device. The changes will be noticed more prominently on the lock screen, where a change seems more evident. Android 12 DP1 has actually adjusted some of the layouts, but this is simply a change in the color of the media player’s UI, with all the same features retained.

So, to summarize, when choosing / selecting a system theme accent color in the “Styles and wallpapers” section, your chosen color will be used for any switching of quick settings, settings pages and now the accent color will be applied to the media player UI of media player with lock screen.

Previously, almost all sections of the media player on your Pixel were themed directly by the color of the content currently playing. For example, an album with a brown / red cover would have an accented player to mimic the main color palette. You can see in the screenshots below that when a green color is used now, the album art or video content is more visible. Works perfectly with all colors in the Styles and wallpaper section too:

The original leaks from the Android 12 UI showed the first signs of this color theme system with “central” accents, but although parts of the developer’s first views don’t yet have a theme, the media player proved to be a prime candidate.
