Two days after the Cleveland Cavaliers announced that they would sit down with Andre Drummond in search of trading opportunities, several teams in the league would have expressed interest in the twice All-Star.
According to Cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor, there are at least eight to 10 teams that have shown an interest in negotiating with Drummond.
By ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Brian Windhorst, Cleveland’s decision to seat Drummond was made after conversations between General Manager Koby Altman and Drummond’s agent, Jeff Schwartz, who agreed that “would remain with the team, but would no longer be active for the games. “
The Cavs started this season with an encouraging 9-9 record, but have since dropped 10 of their last 11 games. They seem to be looking to the future building around Darius Garland, Collin Sexton and the newly acquired Jarrett Allen.
Allen, who was acquired from Brooklyn Nets as part of the James Harden deal, started four of the last five games. He averages 13.2 points and 7.9 rebounds in 16 games for Cleveland.
Drummond is in the final season of his current contract. The 27-year-old got off to a strong start with 17.5 points and 13.2 rebounds per game in 25 games before it was decided that he would not play yet.
Given his size and ability to rebound, Drummond must be one of the most attractive commercial candidates for teams looking to solidify his status as contenders for the playoffs later on.
