SIRUI launched a new 24mm F2.8 1.33x wide-angle lens. It features the elongated oval bokeh and striped lens reflections for which Sirui’s accessible anamorphic lenses have become known, combined with a new, wider field of view.
Wide and accessible anamorphic footage is very limited. Traditional wide-angle anamorphic cinema lenses cost tens of thousands of dollars, while DIY anamorphic adapters based on optics designed for projection do not cover greater angles. In addition, most of these solutions have limited narrow focus.
SIRUI claims that the new 24 mm F2.8 was designed from the beginning to meet these needs. The lens has a 1.33x compression factor and has an image circle that covers APS-C size sensors.
It is available in native assemblies for Micro Four Thirds, Sony E, Canon EF-M, Nikon Z, and Fujifilm X cameras.
The lens construction is an all-metal body with a front filter size of 77 mm and the lens cylinder is non-rotating, which allows easy use of variable ND and other filters. The SIRUI R&D team solved important technical problems to provide a minimum focusing distance of 0.6 m, previously impossible, without the need for additional diopters.
The fast F2.8 aperture of the 24mm lens allows objects in the foreground to stand out against softly blurred backgrounds and night scenes to be perfectly captured. Combining the fast aperture with the focus close to 0.6 m also offers interesting close-up options.
