Analogue says pocket pre-orders are coming again with additional bot protection

If you missed pre-ordering Pocket Analogue gaming notebook from Analogue, good news: additional pre-orders are coming, and Analogue says it is implementing bot and scalper protections to help drive resellers away.

In a new post, Analogue set out its plans for 2021 orders.

Analogue says it is implementing “robust” bot protection, and all orders placed using bots will be canceled and inventory will be reallocated to real customers. For human climbers, Analogue says it will work with eBay to monitor accounts that sell access to an order, which is against eBay’s terms of service, and to cancel them.

“The current global state of affairs has resulted in consequences that have affected the global supply chain and this has temporarily reduced our ability to keep many of our products in stock (Super Nt, Mega Sg) and reduced the production capacity for Pocket,” said Analogue. “We are aware that many users are frustrated because Pocket pre-orders sold out quickly and both Super Nt and Mega Sg are currently unavailable.”

Analogue says it is also taking steps to prevent errors in the shipping calculator, which has delayed some shipments and prevented some people from completing orders.

The Analogue Pocket is effectively a modern reinterpretation of the Nintendo Game Boy. Featuring an elegant and minimalist design (like a Game Boy imagined by a PS4 designer), the Pocket is compatible with 2,780 Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance cartridges. It also works with cartridge adapters for Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket, Atari Lynx and others. Although it has 10 times the resolution of a Game Boy screen, Pocket can also use an “Original View” to replicate the appearance of the original game. As if that were not enough, Pocket also has its own music creation and game design software. You can read our full preview here.

The first batch of portable Analogue Pocket devices is expected to go on sale in May 2021.
