An explosion rocks Hope Valley, Lucas and Elizabeth Clash

There were some fireworks in Hope Valley on the March 7 episode When you call the heart, and we’re not just talking about the oil rig explosion. A figure from Nathan’s past (Kevin McGarry) has resurfaced, configuring what could be a dramatic confrontation. In addition, Lucas (Chris McNally) said some surprisingly harsh words to Elizabeth (Erin Krakow).

Hearties knew he was expecting something big in this episode, as a teaser revealed the townspeople dealing with an oil well explosion. The crisis naturally brought to mind the tragic explosion of the mine that killed so many men before the start of the first season. Fortunately, the fire on the platform was not a catastrophe at that level.

Lucas is almost ready to throw in the towel at the oil business, but shortly after making that announcement, the well workers finally find the black gold. However, euphoria quickly turns to horror when the geyser unleashes a massive explosion. The Hope Valley men – along with Fiona (Kayla Wallace) – come together to stop the fire by dynamiting the well, a risky trick that ends up working, to everyone’s relief.

A sweet moment between Lee and Rosemary

Lee (Kavan Smith) and Rosemary (Pascale Hutton) have a little screen time in this episode. He is delighted when a chair that he bought on his trip to South America arrives. But his injured back means that he still cannot enjoy it. He tells his wife that he doesn’t want anyone else to sit on her before him, because it’s “bad luck”. Predictably, Rosemary sits on the chair, which immediately collapses.

Rosemary is horrified and Lee confesses that he bought the chair because it reminds him of one he made with his grandfather. He’s upset because he doesn’t do anything else. To cheer him up, Rosemary – in a totally sweet gesture – turns his special place in the backyard (which he created for her) into a workshop for him.

A figure from Nathan’s past resurfaces

Last week’s episode ended with a big moment between Nathan and Elizabeth, where he confessed that he loved her, and she responded by running away. (Well, technically, she left on her horse.) Unfortunately, fans who were hoping for a solution to this situation did not succeed in “From the Ashes” Early on, Elizabeth tells Rosemary that she did not speak to Nathan. She is also avoiding Lucas.

“I know I made the right choice not to be with Nathan. But I don’t know if I chose to stay with Lucas, ”she says.

Still, we see a good deal of Nathan in this episode. First, he tells Bill (Jack Wagner) that he is no longer interested in buying the land where he clearly envisioned living with Elizabeth and his niece. As they talk, Superintendent Hargraves (David Lewis) rides into town. There is some serious – but unexplained – tension between the two Mounties. Hargraves is investigating the shooting during the transfer of prisoners at the end of season 7, which left another police officer dead. The investigation will see if Nathan was to blame for the incident. “Your career as an editor is at stake,” warns Andrew. But this is obviously more than the shot. Could Nathan be hiding a dark secret? We hope to find out why Andrew has a grudge against Nathan in a future episode.

Jesse buys a motorcycle, Gowen apologizes

Also in this episode, Jesse (Aren Buchholz) takes a ride on Lee’s motorcycle and is immediately taken by the modern machine. He buys, much to Clara’s dismay (Eva Bourne). But his first attempt to hit the road ends badly when he runs out of gas.

Meanwhile, Gowen (Martin Cummins) shows some unusual humility in apologizing to Ned (Hrothgar Mathews) for accusing him of opening his correspondence. He also brings flowers to Florence (Loretta Walsh) and, after he leaves, Florence and Ned share a moment of flirtation at the merchant market.

Finally, Faith (Andrea Brooks) is frustrated because Carson (Paul Greene) still treats her like a nurse, despite her advanced medical training. This conflict is as much about Faith wanting to be taken seriously as a professional as it is about the unresolved status of their relationship. This begs the question: Does Hope Valley have room for two doctors?

Lucas attacks Elizabeth

Earlier, Helen (Teryl Rothery) put Elizabeth in a difficult situation by confessing that Lucas’ father had left her. She asked Elizabeth to keep her secret, which Elizabeth agreed to do, although she thought Lucas deserved to know the truth.

In this episode, Helen and Elizabeth have some conversations about romance and love. At first, Helen basically calls Elizabeth for waffling between Lucas and Nathan. Later, she visits Elizabeth at her home, where the young woman suggests that if she still loves Lucas’ father, she needs to fight for him.

Helen takes the advice of her protégé and goes home to be reconciled with her husband. But she left some debris behind. Lucas is upset, both with the separation from his parents and because Elizabeth did not tell him about it. She shares the advice she gave Helen, saying, “You have to fight for love. And maybe she needed to be the first to get in touch. ”

His answer is blunt: “What do you know about this?”

Lucas is being really unpleasant here, and Elizabeth quickly tells him that her words are “cruel”. But, in his anger, he’s right – Elizabeth can’t follow her own advice and fight for the man she (maybe?) Loves. Lucas left his feelings clear months ago and then stepped back to give her space to decide between him and Nathan. But she can’t do the courtesy to tell him if his feelings for her are reciprocated.

At the end of this episode, Elizabeth managed to alienate Nathan and Lucas. Of course, this love triangle cannot last much longer.

The next episode of When you call the heart airs on Sunday, March 14 at 9:00 pm ET on the Hallmark Channel
