An ambitious open world D&D adventure game is in the works

Hidden Path Entertainment is in development in an open world third-person AAA fantasy game in the Dungeons & Dragons franchise. The developer made the announcement on March 2, via Twitter, in a tweet stating that the studio is hiring for the project. Hidden Path Entertainment is the developer behind Raccoon Lagoon, Defense grid 2and VR titles Witch’s Blood and Brass Tactics. Not much is known about the project at the moment – other than a notable figure in the development team itself.

Whitney “Strix” Beltràn, a high-level independent developer responsible for the award-winning table game Bluebeard Bride, is the narrative director of the project. Bluebeard Bride is a horror RPG based on the French folktale, with a rules light engine. Players take control of different aspects of the bride’s psyche, ultimately deciding the character’s final destination, her husband and her home.

THE Blue Beard The product line currently includes the basic rule book, three additional books of supplementary material and illustrated card decks used to represent mysterious and haunted monsters and objects in the game’s mansion. Beltràn also worked on Holovista, an ambitious augmented reality game for mobile devices that explored the fantastic architecture and culture of social media influencers.

Furthermore on twitter, Beltràn said he has been working on the new D&D video game for some time.

This is not the only large-scale project currently under development for the Dungeons & Dragons franchise. Larian Studios, the creators of the series Divinity: Original Sin, released Baldur’s Gate 3 in early access in October. In addition, Wizards’ internal studio, Tuque Games, is working on a cooperative action RPG called Dark Alliance starring Drizzt Do’Urden, the famous drow created by RA Salvatore and set in the Icewind Dale region. The game is planned for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in 2021.

Indeed, Dark Alliance takes place in the same part of Forgotten Realms where the latest table D&D campaign takes place. Is called Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden.
