Developers of Among us a line dropped on Tuesday to thank fans for their patience and explain why new developments in the resurgent multiplayer success are coming slowly.
“Among us it gained incredible strength at the end of 2020 that we didn’t expect, and that meant a LOT of change for us, ”wrote InnerSloth on the studio’s official blog. “Not only do we need to go back to work Among us after thinking it was done, but we also needed to prepare more sustainably to work on the game. “
Among us was released on Windows PC in November 2018, but became a social gaming hit in the quarantine culture after the top Twitch streamers started broadcasting it in the summer. The additional hiring and organization needed to take over post-launch support for the game took a few months, InnerSloth said. It also meant that the studio stopped working on a sequel in September, to ensure that players on new platforms were not fooled by the original game.
“There are a ton of other things beyond our control (legal issues, meetings, planning), so sometimes these things take longer, too,” says the blog post.
Among us also made its console debut with the Nintendo Switch in December, which involves certification and other processes in addition to the post-launch support of the original game. InnerSloth, based in Redmond, Washington, has four employees. “We have help from our portability partners to do this,” said the studio, “but it still means that we need to make sure that the things we do in the future will be supported on these platforms.”
Among us will be released on Xbox One and Xbox Series X this year, and is now available for Xbox Game Pass for PC subscribers. At the Game Awards 2020 on December 10, Innersloth announced that a new map, Airship, would enter the game.
