Americans should be ‘outraged’ by Biden’s immigration actions, ‘dismantling’ ICE: Maryland sheriff

A Maryland sheriff warned of President Joe Biden’s immigration actions on Monday, arguing that “Americans will not be safe” and “immigrant communities will not be safe”.

“This type of law leads to more crime victims, more violent crimes [and] gangs infiltrating this country, “Frederick County Sheriff Chuck Jenkins said on” Fox & Friends “Monday.

Jenkins also said that Americans should be “outraged” at Biden for his immigration actions, arguing that the president “dismantled the ICE” by “basically telling agents to leave”.

Jenkins made the comments in response to an interview by an unidentified official who told The Washington Post on Sunday that the Biden government “abolished ICE without abolishing ICE”.

“The swing of the pendulum is so extreme,” continued the official. “It literally seems that we have gone from being able to fully apply our immigration laws to now being instructed not to apply anything.”

US immigration officials will review their approach to arrests and deportations under President Biden, according to Homeland Security officials.

“The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services recently rescinded two 2018 policy memos related to issuing Attendance Notices when processing immigration benefit applications,” said USCIS spokesman Matthew Bourke on Sunday. “The agency was instructed to terminate the relevant policy in a [Department of Homeland Security] memorandum issued on January 20. “

It was on that day that Biden was sworn in – and when he signed a series of executive orders, some of which revoked parts of former President Trump’s immigration policy. He reinforced protections for recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and stopped work on the border wall.

The DHS change took effect on February 1 and tried to suspend evictions for 100 days, except under certain circumstances – before a judge closed the policy.

The change in orientation aims to encourage non-citizens to send documents to immigration officials without fear of being deported immediately.

“There will be no enforcement,” warned Jenkins.

In addition, ICE officers will soon receive new guidance that will lead to fewer arrests and deportations, while using more resources for national security issues, suspected sex offenders, gang members, criminals and newcomers, from according to the Department of Homeland Security.

The policy change would mean that officials would no longer seek deportations for immigrants convicted of drunken driving and aggression and weaken ICE’s ability to arrest wanted immigrants in correctional institutions.

The ICE would stop chasing deportations of drug trafficking criminals, DUI drivers, low-profile attackers, fraudsters and thieves, according to a memo from director Tae Johnson obtained by the Washington Post.

“One thing that is always taken into account in deportations is the criminal record, so regardless of the crime, regardless of the event, the crime that these people will roam our streets with impunity,” warned Jenkins. “It is absolutely ridiculous.”

Host Steve Doocy asked Jenkins why he believes Biden is doing this.

He replied that he believes part of the reason is because the government is “angry at President Trump”.

“All the advances he has made to strengthen immigration enforcement over the past four years, they are being completely dismantled and dismantled,” continued Jenkins.
