American Airlines becomes the only US carrier with direct service from Miami to Tel Aviv and Paramaribo, Suriname

Miami Hometown Airline deepens its commitment to the community with new and improved services

  • American introduces new destination for non-stop route map from Miami (MIA) to Paramaribo, Suriname and adds new MIA flight to Tel Aviv (TLV) from June.
  • MIA will launch a new summer service for Little Rock, Arkansas (LIT) and Portland, Maine (PWM).
  • The airline increases capacity for Latin America and the Caribbean with additional MIA frequencies for the Caribbean starting in April; and new service from Charlotte (CLT), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and Los Angeles (LAX) from June.

MIAMI – American Airlines reinforces its commitment to its Miami hub by announcing two new international routes to Tel Aviv (TLV) and Paramaribo, Suriname (PBM), starting this summer. The airline is also introducing two new domestic routes from the MIA hub to Little Rock, Arkansas (LIT) and Portland, Maine (PWM), operating from June 5 to August 16. All flights will be available for purchase on February 15th.

Launch of new international routes from the south

American will complement the recently announced service from New York (JFK) to TLV with flights from MIA to TLV launching in June. The service three times a week from MIA to TLV begins on June 4 and will operate on a Boeing 777-200. Customers will have the option to choose Flagship Business, with straight seats, Premium Economy or Main Cabin on the 12-hour flight. The airline plans to offer Kosher meals to order and Kosher wine on board.

“American has always been the biggest and best in Miami, with more flights to more places than any other operator, and as demand recovers, we’ll be even bigger and better than ever,” said Brian Znotins, vice president American network planning. “Our new service to Tel Aviv and Paramaribo is the beginning of further growth in Miami, and as the city grows and expands, American will do the same.”

Beginning in July, American will also be the first and only operator in the United States to offer nonstop PBM service. The flights will operate five times a week on an Airbus 319, with a convenient schedule for customers traveling across the United States to connect via MIA. As the airline’s new destination, Suriname becomes the ninth country served in South America.

More from MIA

This year, customers can also expect more MIA frequencies for the Caribbean. For example, Port-au-Prince (PAP) will increase to five daily flights starting in April; and Santiago (STI) and Santo Domingo (SDQ), in the Dominican Republic, will operate four and seven daily flights, respectively. In addition to MIA’s PAP service, the airline will offer an additional daily flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida (FLL) to PAP, starting April 2.

MIA will also increase service to Latin America, with 12 destinations seeing more frequencies this summer compared to 2019. Last year, the airline introduced the Boeing 787-8 aircraft to the Miami hub, offering additional capacity for multiple destinations. This service includes Bogotá (BOG), Medellín (MDE) and Cali (CLO) in Colombia; Guayaquil (GYE) and Quito (UIO) in Ecuador; Lima, Peru (LIM); PAP; and Santiago, Chile (SCL).

From June 5, the airline will launch the service on Saturdays from MIA to LIT and PWM. This is the first time that American will operate this service during the summer months, offering more options for customers in Little Rock and Portland to visit sunny South Florida or connect seamlessly to one of the many destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean.

“Since the establishment of our hub in Miami in 1989, American’s commitment to our community and our team has not diminished,” said Juan Carlos Liscano, American’s vice president of operations for Miami, the Caribbean and Latin America. “During the pandemic, we continued to strengthen our capacity in Miami to meet demand from Latin America and the Caribbean. With the launch of new international destinations this year – Tel Aviv and Suriname – two new domestic destinations – Little Rock and Portland – and additional flights to major destinations in the Caribbean, we hope to further deepen our ties with Miami. ”

Growth in Latin America and the Caribbean

American continued to increase its capacity for Latin America and the Caribbean, improving aircraft and adding more services. This summer, American is planning 16% more capacity for the MIA region compared to 2019.

With a significant travel demand for Latin America and the Caribbean, American will double capacity in Colombia and Peru, while increasing more than 50% of capacity in Ecuador and 24% of capacity for Central America compared to 2019. In this summer, the airline is also adding service to the region from its Charlotte (CLT), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and Los Angeles (LAX) hubs. Additions to the Caribbean include a new destination for Samana (AZS), seasonally operated by CLT, as well as seasonal DFW service to St. Maarten (SXM) and St. Lucia (UVF). The new routes to Mexico include the DFW to Mérida (MID) service, as well as LAX to Cancún (CUN).
