The project is adapted from the 2017 young adult novel by Erika L. Sanchez, which follows Julia Reyes, teenage daughter of first-generation Mexican immigrants.

She always comes into conflict with her traditional parents and her sister Olga, who fits the mold of a ‘perfect Mexican daughter’ perfectly.

The family turns upside down when Olga dies in an accident, and the rebellious Julia is responsible for keeping the family together.
