Johnny Depp’s team thinks the star in trouble may finally be able to win a court victory – because his ex, Amber Heard, allegedly neglected to donate his divorce funds to charities.
When ex-wife Heard raised $ 7 million in the 2017 divorce settlement, she pledged to donate the money to the American Civil Liberties Union and Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles.
But on Wednesday, it was reported in court that Heard never handed the money over to charities.
Now, sources close to Depp think the revelation could work in his favor by trying to appeal another of his many legal battles.
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star sued the British newspaper The Sun after he labeled him “wifebeater” for allegedly attacking Heard during their wedding. He lost the case last July.
But now he is trying to appeal the decision.
Heard was a key witness in the original case, and a judge found the allegations made against Depp in the article to be “substantially true”.
But sources close to Depp’s team told us this week: “The judge thought she was a wonderful human being defending humanity”, because of her supposed generosity, “but she was lying as hell [about the donations]. “
At a hearing in London on Thursday to decide whether Depp can appeal, his lawyer called the complaint about the donation of money “a calculated and manipulative lie”.
But Sun’s lawyers said Heard didn’t lie, that she had already made “a series of payments” and hadn’t finished delivering them yet.
It was also discovered in court that Depp had sent a message to a friend at the time saying: “No way is she going to give anyone a dime !!! Thank you damn she’s gone !!! I get sick of thinking about how much I tried to make it work … Now … Honestly, I wouldn’t touch that fucking prostitute with a Hazmat suit !!! What a scum. I hate her !!! “
