Amazon’s troubled New World MMO postponed to August

Amazon’s open world MMO, New world, was once again postponed. The developer now expects the game to be released on August 31. “We have been working hard on attractive end-of-game features that we believe are important to include in the release,” says an update on the game’s website. “These resources will not be ready for the spring period that we have communicated.”

Development at Amazon has been difficult. New world it has already received its share of criticism also for its representations of European colonization. The sustaining game, previously planned for a 2020 launch, was postponed from its August date to spring 2021 last July – its second delay. The news came just days after Amazon’s studio Relentless essentially released its free shooting game Crucible putting it back in closed beta. In 2019, Amazon laid off dozens of developers as part of a reorganization; canceled another support game, To run awayin 2018.
