Amazon’s Super Bowl ad stars Michael B. Jordan as Alexa

Amazon is familiar with the Super Bowl ads, and the company has another ready for this year’s big game. The 2021 ad stars actor Michael B. Jordan, whom you may know as Erik Killmonger of Black Panther or quarterback Vince Howard of Friday Night Lights, as the company’s Alexa smart assistant.

In the ad, a woman dreams of what it would be like if Alexa were personified as the very handsome Jordan, and she was appropriately in love with AI. At a certain point, for example, the woman asks Alexa to dim the lights and Jordan takes off his shirt in response. (Her partner then runs in a good mood to demand that Alexa turn on the lights.)

The ad is a fun version of the Super Bowl ads that use attractive women to sell something. (Some of the infamous Super Bowl commercials from Carl’s Jr. and GoDaddy come to mind.) Everything just got a lot better with Jordan’s terrifying eyes, which are an unnatural bright blue that you can recognize from the rings on an Amazon Echo device.

You can watch a 60-second version of the commercial at the top of this post. A 90-second version is built into a amazon tweet.

This is not the first time that Amazon has used a celebrity to impersonate Alexa in a Super Bowl ad. The 2018 commercial featured the voices of Gordon Ramsay, Rebel Wilson, Cardi B and Anthony Hopkins as Alexa when she “lost” her voice. And if you want to recall many years of other Alexa ads filled with Amazon stars, here’s a list of the company’s previous Super Bowl shorts:
