Amazon’s big sale includes the Echo Show 8 for $ 75 and the newest Echo Dot for $ 35

In shocking news that will have lasting global implications, Amazon hardware is on sale today. I’m kidding, I’m kidding, because Amazon’s hardware goes on sale with almost fun regularity. Under no circumstances should you pay the full price for, say, an Echo Dot.

To be clear, these are not the lowest prices ever recorded – they are usually reserved for Amazon Prime Day and Black Friday sales – but some of them are close. The Amazon Echo 5 smart display, for example, goes on sale for $ 50, a discount of $ 40 off the regular price and just $ 5 above the lowest price ever.

Let’s take a look at all the highlights of the sale.

For the same price you would normally pay for the Fire TV Stick Lite, you can get the “intermediate” version of the streaming stick, which offers an important benefit: TV control buttons on the remote. Assuming your TV is compatible, this means that you can control the power, volume and mute, all with the same device. You can also talk about it; the Fire TV Stick supports Alexa commands, which is decidedly useful.

This package includes a free $ 40 Food Network Kitchen year. Please note, however, that your subscription will be renewed for that price, unless you cancel. Please also note that this version does not support 4K streaming – and the Fire TV Stick 4K is not currently available (although it will definitely be back sometime soon).

This is a great bedside companion, especially for that price. The Echo Show 5 comes with a 5.5 inch touchscreen, a decent speaker and Alexa’s intelligence. There is also a camera (with privacy shutter) for making video calls. You could get an Echo Dot without a screen for a few dollars less, but why?

It’s a wider version of Echo Show 5 – and that extra screen space makes it a better kitchen companion, as it’s easier to follow recipe videos. CNET had already dubbed it “the best Alexa smart display, period”, last year, and it was based on the $ 130 list price. For $ 75, it looks like a steal.

There’s a new, sophisticated Echo Show 10 on the scene, with a robust speaker and motorized screen that can accompany you as you move around, say, the kitchen. But if you find this idea scary (or unnecessary) and just want the biggest Echo Show you can, this second generation model is the way to go. Originally at $ 230, this deal has the lowest price ever recorded.

It doesn’t matter if it’s been renovated; is “tested and certified to look and function like new and comes with the same limited warranty as a new device,” according to Amazon.

Enjoy three months of high quality music streaming, free of charge

Audio purists often lament the lower bit rates used by music streaming services, which do not offer the same fidelity as lossless or “HD” streaming. If you’re using Spotify’s free option, for example, you’re listening at about 160 kilobits per second – nothing great.

Want to see how the other half lives? Or rather, hear how the other half hears? For a limited time, you can get a free three-month subscription to Deezer HiFi, which transmits in FLAC format without losses (1.4 Mbps).

Even if you are already a subscriber, say, to Spotify Premium or even Amazon Music HD (which broadcasts around 850 Kbps), it would be an interesting experiment to compare it with Deezer HiFi.

Try both with speakers, try both with headphones, see if you can spot any differences. Some listeners will succeed, others will not. But it won’t cost you anything to test these audio waters.

After three months, however, you will begin to be charged at the standard rate ($ 15 per month), unless you cancel.
