Amazon to open COVID-19 inoculation site

In an attempt to vaccinate thousands of individuals, Amazon will bring a “pop-up” inoculation site to Seattle over the weekend, the New York Post reported.

A representative of Washington Governor Jay Inslee told the outlet that the clinic will be open on Sunday (January 24) with the aim of providing 2,000 vaccines. The e-commerce retailer will partner with the Virginia Mason Health System.

The clinic will provide vaccines for first responders, health professionals and individuals at least 65 years of age.

Separately, Walmart is preparing to provide coronavirus inoculations in seven additional states, in addition to Puerto Rico and Chicago, Reuters reported, citing a company representative. Walmart is currently inoculating healthcare professionals in Arkansas and New Mexico.

The retailer will begin offering vaccines in Texas, South Carolina, New Jersey, Maryland, Louisiana, Indiana and Georgia, according to Reuters. Only certain groups of people chosen by each state will have access to vaccines in some stores.

The news comes as Walgreens announces that it has given more than a million COVID-19 vaccines to long-term care facilities and other vulnerable groups. And Rite Aid recently announced that it was stepping up its COVID-19 testing functions free of charge with another 60 drive-thru locations that opened on Friday (January 22).
