Amazon employees at a warehouse in Alabama continue to struggle with the company for unionization.
Amazon is aware that its employees are supposed to pee in water bottles and defecate in bags, documents show.
The tech giant suggested in a tweet to Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Wisc., That the various reports published in recent years alleging poor working conditions on Amazon and evidence that employees complained about peeing in water bottles or of not having enough time to use the bathroom were false.
“You really don’t believe in this thing about peeing in bottles, do you?” Amazon tweeted Thursday. “If that were true, no one would work for us. The truth is that we have over a million amazing employees around the world who are proud of what they do and receive great salaries and health care from day one.”
The tweet came in response to criticism from Pocan, who accused the company of pretending to be a “progressive workplace”.
“Paying workers $ 15 / hour doesn’t make you a ‘progressive workplace’ when you break the union [and] make workers urinate in water bottles “, said the deputy.

Internal documents obtained by the New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the digital investigative news channel The Intercept show that at least some management teams at Amazon were aware of the fact that employees – and in particular delivery drivers – they were urinating in bottles water and defecating in bags because they didn’t have time to go to the bathroom.

A Pittsburgh-based Amazon employee sent a document labeled “confidential” to the vehicle that lists behavioral violations, including “urinating in public” and “defecating in public”.
The same employee shared an email from an Amazon manager to employees of The Intercept condemning the third occurrence of a driver defecating in a bag in two months.

“Tonight, an associate discovered human feces in an Amazon bag that was returned to the station by a driver,” says the email, according to The Intercept. “This is the [third] last occasion [two] months in which the bags were returned to [the] station with poop inside. We understand that [driver associates] they can have emergencies while on the road and, especially during Covid, DAs have been struggling to find restrooms during deliveries. “
The email continues: “We recently noticed an increase in all types of unhealthy garbage left in bags: used masks, gloves, urine bottles. By scanning the QR code on the bag, we can easily identify the DA that was in possession of the bag last. These behaviors are unacceptable and will result in Level 1 infractions going forward …. I know if it may seem obvious or something you shouldn’t need to train, but be explicit in communicating the message that YOU CANNOT poop or leave urine bottles in the bags. “
Another former Amazon delivery driver, Halie Marie Brown, told the establishment that the incidents happen because drivers “are literally implicitly forced to do so, otherwise we will end up losing our jobs because of too many ‘undeliverable packages'” .
An email Brown shared with The Intercept advises employees to check their delivery vans “carefully for trash and urine bottles[s]. “

Another email from an Amazon manager that a Houston driver for The Intercept complains about “several serious accidents, a stolen van” and “drivers leaving urine bottles etc. in the vans”.
Several reporters who researched allegations of evidence of working conditions on Amazon shared evidence that employees complained about peeing in water bottles or not having enough time to use the bathroom on Twitter.
Amazon did not immediately respond to a question from Fox News.
Progressive politicians, including Ocasio-Cortez, Vermont independent Senator Bernie Sanders and Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren, as well as conservative politicians, including Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio, have increased pressure on Amazon to improve and be more transparent about conditions of workers at its facilities as workers in Bessemer, Alabama, impose a union vote that the company tried unsuccessfully to postpone.

The official Amazon brand Twitter account has struggled with several lawmakers in the past few days as the company tried to eliminate the unflattering claims.
The company was investigated after employees around the world complained about poor working conditions in the midst of COVID-19. On the other hand, Amazon employed 500,000 global workers in 2020, including seasonal workers, bringing its total workforce to over 1.3 million, the company announced during its fourth-quarter earnings call.
