Almost 700 SC non-profit organizations impacted by COVID-19 to receive money under the SC CARES Act

COLOMBIA, SC (WMBF) – Hundreds of non-profit organizations in South Carolina that fought during the coronavirus pandemic will receive some extra money soon.

In October, Governor Henry McMaster announced two new grant programs made available through the SC CARES Act: the Nonprofit Assistance Grant Program and the Minority and Small Business Assistance Grant Program.

On Wednesday, the South Carolina Department of Administration announced that 686 organizations will receive money through the Relief Grants Program for Nonprofits. Those who signed up were eligible to receive between $ 2,500 to $ 50,000 in funds.

WMBF News looked at the recipients and found some local non-profit organizations that will benefit from the funding.

The Georgetown and Horry County Family Justice Center, Horry County Family Support Services, Meals on Wheels of Horry County and New Directions of Horry County will receive $ 50,000 in grants. Habitat for Humanity of Horry County is expected to receive $ 49,788 in cash.

Organizations in Florence will also receive help. The Florence Little Theater and the Florence Symphony Orchestra will receive $ 49,788.

In total, $ 25 million will be awarded to nonprofit organizations across the state of Palmetto.

The scholarship payment will occur until January 2021, according to the State Administration Secretariat.

As for the Minority and Small Business Aid Grants, a list of these beneficiaries is due to be released on Thursday.
