Season 2 of ‘Bridgerton’ focuses on the love story of this brother Bridgerton
(Warning: spoilers for Season 1 of “Bridgerton” until the end.) Netflix’s “Bridgerton” has been a hit for the streaming service since the romance series produced by Shonda Rhimes debuted on Christmas Day. And after the January 21 announcement that the series has been renewed for Season 2, TheWrap thought about giving all of you, adoring viewers of “Bridgerton”, a scoop on the new batch of episodes. What you probably know now is that the first season of “Bridgerton” was adapted by series creator Chris Van Dusen from author Julia Quinn’s novel “The Duke and I”, which follows Daphne Bridgerton’s love story (played by Phoebe Dynevor in the series) and Simon Basset, also known as Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page). But what you may not know is that the book is the first in a series of eight, each dedicated to a different Bridgerton brother. And it turns out that this is what the show will do in its second season, which goes into production this spring and focuses on the love life of Daphne’s brother Anthony, Bridgerton’s older brother, played by Jonathan Bailey in “Bridgerton. This means that Van Dusen and Rhimes are following the order of Quinn’s “Bridgerton” novels, as Book 2, “The Viscount Who Loved Me,” is all about Anthony. As you can see, the character’s name was changed from Kate Sheffield in the book to Kate Sharma, as the “Bridgerton” creative team had decided that her family would be of Indian descent and changed her surname.
