Allegheny, greedy cases from Westmoreland counties, stable deaths; Pennsylvania exceeds 12% fully vaccinated

In Pennsylvania, the number of people vaccinated against coronavirus has continued to rise, while serious cases and deaths have remained relatively stable.

In Allegheny County, on Thursday, there was a slight increase in new cases and hospitalizations. Westmoreland County saw a reduction in cases and a new death. And the state as a whole has seen cases and deaths remain stable, with hospitalizations decreasing again.


Allegheny County

The state reported that 175,016 residents of Allegheny County (26.9% of residents) received at least one dose of a covid vaccine, while 154,509 individuals are fully covered (12.6% of all residents).

In an effort to vaccinate more people, the Allegheny County Health Department announced on Wednesday that it will expand eligibility for its vaccine distribution to include people aged 50 and over who have certain health conditions.

As of Friday, the department will serve people aged 50 to 64 with high-risk health conditions, including cancer, COPD, heart disease and many others included in the state’s Phase 1A.

Allegheny County on Thursday reported 296 additional coronavirus cases (180 confirmed cases) and no new coronavirus deaths.

Although there were no new deaths reported, the county said that three of the deaths reported on Wednesday were considered residents of other counties and have been removed from Allegheny County figures.

The death toll in Allegheny County from covid-19 is 1,735.

According to state data, 161 residents of Allegheny County are hospitalized for covid (plus four on Wednesday), 40 of them are in intensive care units and 20 of them are on ventilators.

The new cases of coronavirus vary in age from 10 months to 92 years, with a median of 35 years. The age ranges of recently reported cases – 128 men and 168 women – are:

  • Ages 0-4: 6
  • From 5 to 12 years old: 27
  • From 13 to 18 years: 32
  • Age 19-24: 29
  • From 25 to 49 years: 123
  • Age 50-64: 52
  • From 65 years: 27

Additional cases of coronavirus have raised the county total to 80,941 since the pandemic began last year.


Westmoreland County

In Westmoreland County, on Thursday, there were 66 additional greedy cases and a new death reported.

With the additional 66 cases covered (38 confirmed, 28 probable), the total number of cases in Westmoreland County is 27,890 (19,525 confirmed, 8,365 probable) since the first cases were reported last year.

And the additional death related to reported greed raises the total number of greed deaths in the county to 692.

According to the state’s covid-19 panel, 117 Westmoreland county residents are hospitalized for covid-19 (no changes since Wednesday), five are in intensive care units and two are on ventilators.

The state reported that 44,200 of Westmoreland county residents (23.3% of residents) received at least one dose of a coveted vaccine, while 40,867 individuals are fully covered (11.1% of residents).

Excela Health said it is increasing its ability to provide a coronavirus vaccine by opening a clinic in North Huntingdon. The clinic will be able to give about 2,000 vaccines a day, more than double the amount the health care system has been making, said chief physician Carol Fox.


Pennsylvania

According to state and municipal data, more than 3.1 million people (24.9% of residents) received at least one dose of a covid vaccine and more than 1.5 million were fully vaccinated (12.1% of residents ).

These figures include data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Philadelphia Department of Health, which maintain separate records when it comes to vaccines in the state.

The number of residents hospitalized for the virus is 1,486, down 14 from Wednesday, according to state data.

The state has also adjusted its death toll. The Pennsylvania Department of Health added just 17 deaths to the total on Thursday, despite reporting an additional 36 deaths in March and one in February. This is because the state also made adjustments to the total deaths from previous months, reducing these totals by 20: January (-2), December (-7), November (-2), October (-1), June (-2) and May 6).

Thursday marked the one year since the first death related to greed was reported in the state. The patient was an adult from Northampton County and was being treated at a hospital.

The state also reported 3,126 additional cases of coronavirus, which is the highest daily total for the month.

The average number of cases in the state in seven days is 2,638 cases, and the total number of cases in seven days in the state is 18,465, an increase of 9% over last Thursday’s figures.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the state is 976,847.
