Go ahead, Jets fans. Dream big – Deshaun Watson big.
The disgruntled Pro Bowl quarterback reportedly has the Jets at the top of his wish list, followed by rival Dolphins, according to the Miami Herald.
Watson, a 25-year-old star, was disenchanted with the Texans and has a no-trade clause, which gives him power over his next stop. The Miami Herald reported that Watson is in love with the new Jets coach Robert Saleh and wanted the Texans to target the 49ers’ former defensive coordinator for his vacant head coach position.
Watson, three times Pro Bowler, is said to have been upset with the Texans because, after being promised that he would be part of the hiring process for his new general manager, his opinion was largely ignored. The team ended up hiring former Patriots executive Nick Caserio. Watson also got angry last year when the Texans negotiated their main target, DeAndre Hopkins, for the Cardinals.
49ers cornerback Richard Sherman applauded Saleh’s hiring of the Jets and told Watson that he should put pressure on the Texans to trade him there.
“I would get out of there as soon as possible, I would go to New York,” Sherman said recently on the Cris Collinsworth podcast.
This report is the latest example of Watson’s potential desire to play for the Jets. The Texas star’s official Instagram account liked a photo from the last page of The Post on Monday, which said the Jets should do whatever it took to acquire the quarterback.
Watson was also in the area, watching a Brooklyn Nets game last week, and is known to be friends with Kevin Durant.
The Jets had a chance to remove Watson from Clemson in 2017, but took safety Jamal Adams at No. 6. Watson fell to the Texans at No. 12.
