All graduate students at Duke University must be quarantined after recruitment parties

Duke University issued a quarantine order for all of its students beginning on Saturday night due to an outbreak of coronavirus caused by students who participated in recruitment parties, the school said.

The university said in a statement that all undergraduate students will be forced to stay at least until March 21. Suspension or dismissal from school are potential punishments for “flagrant or repeat offenders”.

Last week, the school reported more than 180 positive cases of coronavirus among students. There are over 200 students who may have been exposed and quarantined.

The school said in the statement that the outbreak was “mainly caused by students who participated in recruitment parties for selective living groups”.

Duke said it will provide an update to the policy on Thursday.
