TALLAHASSEE, Florida – In less than two weeks, all Florida residents aged 18 and over will be able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Governor Ron DeSantis announced on Thursday morning that from Monday, April 5, he will open the vaccine to “all individuals aged 18 and over”.

In addition, as of Monday, March 29, all Florida residents age 40 and older will be eligible to receive the vaccine.

“We are ready to take that step,” said DeSantis in a short video on social media. “We want to maintain that momentum as we expand eligibility to other age groups across the state of Florida.”

According to the latest figures from the Florida Department of Health, 5,205,239 people received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in the State of the Sun, including more than 3.2 million seniors aged 65 and over.

“Florida’s ‘Seniors First’ vaccine strategy is paying off,” said DeSantis. “We have already vaccinated more than 70% of the approximately 4.4 million elderly people living in the state.”

Currently, you can receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Florida at Publix, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Winn-Dixie pharmacies, as well as in locations administered by counties and states and federally operated vaccination sites in Miami, Orlando , Tampa and Jacksonville.

“There are now 1,600 pharmacies located across the state of Florida, offering COVID vaccines,” said DeSantis.

The four vaccination sites operated by the federal government do not require booking.
