Alfonzo Allen sets appointment date

South Carolina football hopes to add a second member to the 2022 class.

South Carolina’s football program is gearing up for spring training, but that doesn’t mean things have slowed down in the recruiting process. Shane Beamer and the Gamecock technical team have already secured the commitment of one player, defender Anthony Rose of Hallandale High School in Florida.

On Saturday, they hope to add the promise of their current teammate and secondary partner, Alfonzo Allen, Jr.

Allen will be announcing his college appointment tomorrow at 3 pm on his Instagram Live account.

The four-star prospect recently launched a top 12, which included Gamecocks, Southern Cal, Central Florida, Arizona State, South Florida, UAB, Florida State, Texas A&M, Clemson, LSU, Alabama and Miami.

Allen is considered by Rivals to be the 175th best player in the country, as well as the 13th best safety and 21th best prospect in the Sunshine State. And although he has received offers from more than 50 schools across the country, he has thrown his recruitment close to the vest, giving no clear indication of which program he is most inclined to.

Gamecocks certainly have a chance, however. South Carolina can offer Allen early playing time at the SEC, proximity to home and a chance to join his high school teammate (A. Rose).

The defensive field desperately needs owners, with the team losing its top five contributors the previous season. Jaycee Horn and Israel Mukuamu are out of the NFL, while Jammie Robinson, Shilo Sanders and John Dixon chose to leave the program after Will Muschamp’s resignation.

Putting one of the top 200 players in a position of need would be a great start to the recruitment cycle for Shane Beamer and the South Carolina football team.
