Alex Ovechkin received a call from the NHL for allowing Trent Frederic to piss him off.
The NHL Player Security Department announced Thursday morning that Ovechkin had been fined $ 5,000 for beating Frederic.
In the third period of Washington Capitals’ final victory in the penalty shootout over the Boston Bruins, Ovechkin’s frustrations spilled over after Frederic shot him through the game. Ovechkin, after doing a few cross checks on Frederic, hit the Bruins rookie in the groin.
Both received penalties – the Caps star for cutting and Frederic for cross-checking – but the first act, of course, was much more blatant.
After the game, Frederic was widely applauded for his performance, while the young striker continues to emphasize why he deserves to be one of the pillars of the team.
