In addition to directing, Garland wrote the script for the untitled project. Scott Rudin, who produced his previous projects, returns as a producer along with Eli Bush and Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich of DNA.

The film follows a young woman who goes on vacation alone to the countryside of England after the death of her ex-husband. A24 will finance and distribute.

A24 did not comment.

As for Buckley, sources told Deadline that Garland found talent for the role last year; it quickly became a sought-after role for some of the city’s rising stars. Buckley would end up getting the role, after which Garland quickly defined Kinnear.

This is Garland’s first film since directing the Paramount thriller Annihilation in 2018. The film also marks his return to A24, the studio that helped launch his career with Ex Machina.

Buckley was most recently seen at FX’s Fargo and also won accolades for his Netflix movie I’m thinking about ending things. It can be seen below at National Theater’s Romeo and Juliet for PBS and Sky Arts alongside Josh O’Connor.

Kinnear was most recently seen at Showtime’s Penny Dreadful: City of Angels and can be seen below in the next James Bond photo There is no time to die.
