The 62-year-old “30 Rock” star continued to defend his wife Hilaria (neé Hillary) Baldwin on Instagram on Monday for faking his Spanish accent and heritage, eventually opting for an enigmatic quote from Mark Twain to sum up his feelings .
“A lie can travel half the world while the truth is putting on your shoes,” read the quote.
Alec’s followers did not agree with the sentiment, as his ex-yoga instructor wife was apparently putting on a Spanish facade when in reality she was born and raised in Boston by parents who were also born and raised in Boston.
“As if his wife were Spanish when he lived in Massachusetts his whole life,” wrote one user. “I think her accent is also fake? FRAUDS! “
After reading this attack, Alec replied, “Fuck you.”
A follower tried to defend Hilaria and her love for Spain, claiming it was simply a matter of reinvention.
“She wanted to reinvent herself – so what? Isn’t America just that? Just stop insulting people who can see clear facts. Not [sic] of your parents is Spanish. She is not Spanish, ”wrote the commentator. “She admires and loves Spain so much that she reinvented [sic] herself as a Spanish woman while many hid the fact that they are Latinos. So there are many ways to defend this – to say that facts are not facts is not one. “
Alec did not seem to believe this logic and clarified everything, writing: “She was born in Boston, but grew up in Spain. You understood?”
His biography of the agency finally understood too – he erased the fact that he was “born in Mallorca” from his website on Monday.
