Alec Baldwin deleted his Twitter account after a reaction to a tweet he posted about Gillian Anderson.
This week, Baldwin tweeted a link to a CNN story entitled ‘Gillian Anderson’s American accent confuses some people’, referring to Anderson speaking with his natural American accent at last week’s Golden Globe, despite generally speaking with a British accent in his roles.
After tweeting the story and adding the caption: “Changing your accent? That looks … fascinating, ”users criticized Baldwin for what they considered an unnecessary and mean comment.
In a new video posted on Instagram yesterday (March 3), Baldwin says that hatred led him to delete his account on the social media platform.
Saying that he is Anderson’s “big fan”, Baldwin said: “But I think this, of course, on Twitter, which is where all the idiots in the United States and beyond go to get their advanced degrees in idiocy, which I used as a news aggregator.
“And I suppose I will do my best to find other places that are similar in their aggregation of real-time news and periodicals that I like.
“The problem with Twitter is that there were a lot of haters,” concluded Baldwin in his ten-minute video, saying he “can’t say anything obscure enough” about many Twitter users.
This is not the first time Baldwin has given up on the platform this year. In January, he left Twitter due to a controversy surrounding his wife Hilaria.
Last December, the yoga instructor and lifestyle influencer was accused of pretending to have Spanish origins and denied the allegations in a New York Times profile.
“There is nothing I am doing wrong and I think there is a difference between hiding and creating a limit,” she said at the time.
After comments that Baldwin received about the ongoing controversy, the actor and comedian went to Twitter to explain why he was moving away from the platform.
“Twitter is like a party where everyone is shouting. It’s not a big party, ”he wrote, adding:“ Goodbye for now ”.
Elsewhere, Baldwin said he is “very happy” to lose his job in SNL playing Donald Trump. “Let’s move on to my next wish,” he said. “May everyone who voted for this election keep that commitment and vote in the mid-term elections of 2022. Let’s continue !!! “
