Alec Baldwin delivered a long rant on social media in which he apparently defended Woody Allen and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, while criticizing the “cancellation of culture”.
The actor initially released a 14-minute video on his Instagram in which he covered the topic in more detail before deleting it and replacing it with a significantly shorter video that takes on the culture of cancellation in less specific terms.
“I think my last message was too long. What I was saying is that I think the culture of cancellation is getting out of hand,” said Baldwin. “There are people who deserve to be punished for what they did, but not everyone should be punished in the same way … Not everyone should be punished in the same way. Even the criminal justice system recognizes this ”.
The actor and father of a newborn continued: “I deleted the other message because you go on indefinitely and try to explain things and it doesn’t make any difference. Either way, I think canceling the culture is creating more problems than it solves. like fishing. It’s like a giant network of kilometers long and you’re catching a lot of people, many of them deserve it and some of them, more than some, who don’t. Or they don’t ‘deserve to have their careers and their lives destroyed. “

According to the Daily Mail, Baldwin’s opening speech was a little more focused. Although he did not mention any names, he makes a very clear allusion to the filmmaker in trouble and the governor of New York.

The longest version of Baldwin’s speech begins with the actor explaining that he is tired of being criticized for defending people that the public “canceled” but who have not been found guilty of anything in court. The “30 Rock” actor had previously spoken out in support of Woody Allen, after renewed attention to previous allegations of sexual abuse by his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow. She, her mother and her Pulitzer Prize-winning brother, Ronan, repeat the allegations in the HBO documentary “Allen v. Farrow”.
In his longest video, Baldwin notes that he “doesn’t care how many damn documentaries you make”, noting that critics “have to prove it in court”.
He still alludes to “Allen v. Farrow”, saying, “They were not proven guilty. I don’t care how many Pulitzer Prize-winning authors say otherwise.”

Baldwin tried to make his point even more by referring to Governor Cuomo, who was accused by five women in the past week of sexual harassment.
“The attorney general is going to investigate the charges against a governor. Then, and only then, can we talk about people’s resignation,” he said, apparently referring to the Cuomo investigation and recent calls for him to resign amid the scandal.

Elsewhere in the video, Baldwin notes that he believes the coronavirus pandemic has helped cancel out culture advocates, as people have more time available to go online. He also said that if any of the people he is defending were found guilty in court, he would be happy to stop supporting her and offer an apology to the alleged victims.

Allen has been the subject of two separate investigations since Farrow first claimed that he molested her as a child in the 1990s. Neither resulted in any charges against him.
