Senator Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, sounded the alarm over President Biden’s oil restrictions, putting pressure on her nominee for Interior Secretary, Dep. Deb Haaland, DN.M., over an executive order she said had target your state.
“When we see these executive orders coming out of the White House that not only impact a resource-based state like Alaska, but actually call us by name,” she told Haaland during her confirmation hearing on Tuesday. “We are one of only two states in the country that were specifically targeted by President Biden’s Day One executive order,” said Murkowski.
She appeared to be referring to Biden’s executive order ordering the Department of the Interior to place a temporary moratorium on oil and gas leasing activities at the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
Murkowski went on to say that he did not think Biden was “determined to catch” the Alaskans, but thinks that “there is a definite threat to the natural resources industry that our state is blessed to be able to host”.

Addressing Haaland, she asked him point-blank: “So, if you are confirmed for this significant position, what will be your approach to oil, gas and mineral resource development in a state like Alaska? ? “
Haaland responded in part by saying that he wanted to continue working with Murkowski and help Alaskans get the opportunities “they need”.

“I know that President Biden does not want to paralyze any states,” she said.
“He suspended new lease agreements to review the program. I want you to know that if it is confirmed, I’ll be very confident in our relationship in the future. I want to work with you. that we are doing everything possible to ensure that its constituents have the opportunities they need ”.
