Alachua County under tornado alert, rest of northeastern Florida and southeastern Georgia under surveillance

JACKSONVILLE, Florida. – A tornado alert was issued for Alachua and High Springs County by 3:15 pm due to a tornado indicated on the radar. Chief meteorologist John Gaughan, who is tracking him to Channel 4, said he didn’t look very strong.

This occurs while a Tornado Watch continues in southeastern Georgia and northeastern Georgia until 6pm. This includes Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Clay, Columbia, Duval, Union in Florida and Nassau counties along with Camden, Glynn, Charlton, Brantley, Ware, Clinch and Echols counties in Georgia.

The line of instability over portions of western Georgia will continue to follow the east-northeast direction during the early afternoon. Our hot and unstable atmosphere will allow these storms to intensify in the coming hours.

Those across southeastern Georgia and northeastern Florida have the potential to see severe to severe storms, producing damaging winds, frequent lightning, heavy rain and isolated tornadoes.
