Alabama’s Mac Jones named Best QB by Senior Bowl teammates

After a strong week of practice at Mobile, Alabama quarterback Mac Jones was named the best quarterback on the American Senior Bowl team. The award was voted by members of the secondary who faced Jones in training during the week at Hancock Whitney Stadium.

The other defenders of the American team, which is being coached by the Carolina Panthers‘coaching employees are Kellen Mond (Texas A&M) and Jamie Newman (Wake Forest).

Jones sprained his ankle in training on Thursday and his availability for Saturday’s game is unclear. But before suffering the injury, Jones was having a productive week. Several other defenders have used past Senior Bowl practices to cement or increase their draft inventory, and according to ESPN insider Field Yates, “there is no doubt that Mac Jones did this week.”

“I’m really impressed with who he is,” said Carolina Panthers coach Matt Rhule.

“I was impressed with your character, your courage, your conceit. I mean, he has everything. You can see why your companions follow you. He has a great way with other people. He has been a very productive defender and has shown many things he can do this week. He is very smart. It is accurate. He can move his feet and slide in his pocket. For me, getting to know him, I can see why everyone praises him and why he had the success he had. “

It is not yet known whether Jones will play on Saturday, but striker Landon Dickerson (knee), wide receiver DeVonta Smith (finger) and running back Najee Harris (ankle) have already been ruled out. Former Alabama players who are expected to equip include strikers Deonte Brown and Alex Leatherwood and long snapper Thomas Fletcher.

The 2021 Reese’s Senior Bowl will start at 1 pm CT and will be broadcast on the NFL Network.
