Alabama’s Devonta Smith leaves national title game with hand injury after incredible first half

Alabama star Devonta Smith left the national college football championship game in the third quarter after an impressive first half against Ohio State on Monday night.

In the third quarter Crimson Tide’s first attempt, Smith was seen being arrested by an Ohio State defender. Replays of the play seemed to show that Smith hurt his right hand.

The wide receiver was taken to the team’s medical tent and then he was seen walking back to the locker room with Alabama at 38-24 at the end of the third.

Alabama said it was questionable to return with a hand injury.

Smith set up a historic first semester.

The Heisman Trophy winner had 12 receptions for 215 yards and three touchdowns.

Those who watched the game were concerned with the so-called “Heisman bad luck”, where the winners do not perform well in bowling. The so-called bad luck did not affect Joe Burrow in last year’s national championship game, and the injury did not affect Smith much either.

A veteran Smith has had 105 receptions for 1,641 yards and 20 touchdowns this season. He received most of the attention this season when teammate Jaylen Waddle suffered an ankle injury.
