Alabama’s COVID-19 vaccine online site launched in February

Eligible Alabamians who wish to make an online appointment for the COVID-19 vaccination will have to wait until February.

Dr. Karen Landers of the Alabama Department of Public Health confirmed to AL.com that the online appointment will be launched in February “if not sooner”.

The exact date or its web address has not been announced.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey announced on January 11 that the state would launch the site to ease the pressure on the toll-free number. The appointment line – 1-855-566-5333 – has been full of calls since its launch, receiving 1.1 million calls on the first day.

Last week, state health officer Dr. Scott Harris said the online portal would be available “in a few days”.

Alabama is vaccinating healthcare workers, long-term workers and residents, rescuers and people over 75. The state has been criticized for its slow vaccination process. You can see more about it here.

According to the CDC, 3.6% of the population of Alabama received at least one dose in the two-dose cycle.
