Alabama wins Ohio State for national college football title and ends season undefeated

Alabama defeated Ohio State 52-24 for its third national championship in the era of college football.

In a season significantly affected by the coronavirus pandemic, Crimson Tide managed to win the first 2021 championship at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, and end the season undefeated.

The victory adds up to 14 consecutive wins for Alabama. Crimson Tide hasn’t lost since November 30, 2019, in the SEC Championship game.

The first half of the game was about Crimson Tide’s wide receiver Devonta Smith.

Smith had 12 receptions for 215 yards with three touchdowns. He was making defenders of the State of Ohio err on the left and right and he seemed unstoppable.

His night ended early when he was injured on Alabama’s first attempt in the third quarter. He left the game and didn’t come back. He returned to the sideline at the end of the fourth period in a sweatshirt and his hand completely bandaged.

Mac Jones put together a game for all ages as well.

Jones had 36-to-45 with 464 yards and five touchdown passes. He outperformed Joe Burrow in the national championship last season. Burrow had 463 yards with five touchdown passes.

On the ground, Najee Harris had 79 run yards and two run touchdowns. He also had seven receptions for 79 yards and a touchdown.

Slade Bolden had a touchdown reception in the second half. It was his first school touchdown capture.

The state of Ohio struggled hard all season, but failed.

Justin Fields was beaten by the Crimson Tide defense all night. He finished 17-to-33 with 194 passing yards and a touchdown. He also led the team in races with 67 yards.

Master Teague III ran for 65 yards and two touchdowns. Trey Sermon left early in the game with an injury to the labrum. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution and did not return.

The Buckeyes receiver, Garrett Wilson, had the lone capture for touchdown. He ended with three 50-yard receptions. Chris Olave led Ohio State with eight 69-yard receptions.

The Buckeyes ended their season with a Big Ten Championship and a defeat.

Nick Saban’s legendary college football legacy only grows after victory. It is Saban’s seventh national championship and his sixth as Alabama coach. He won one during the 2003 season with LSU and won his first with Alabama in 2009, after returning to college football after a season with the Miami Dolphins.

Alabama won its first national title during the college football era during the 2015 season, defeating Clemson 45-40. The team defeated Georgia in the only game of overtime in the final, 26-23. It is the 18th title in the school’s history.

Crimson Tide is likely to lose several important players to the professional ranks. They will try to return to the title dispute in 2021.
