Alabama man killed for contracting contagious variant of COVID-19

A father of two in Alabama who contracted the UK’s COVID-19 variant lost the battle against the highly contagious virus, says his wife.

Alfonzia Jackson Jr. started to get sick at Christmas time and his symptoms got worse when he started struggling to breathe two weeks ago, wife Ashley Jackson told The Birmingham News.

Jackson was admitted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham on January 22 and his wife later learned that he tested positive for the UK variant that is spreading rapidly across the United States.

On Tuesday, she posted on Facebook that her beloved husband passed away.

“Sir, this day has been difficult,” she wrote. “I wouldn’t wish that on anyone when I said goodbye to my incredible husband. I remembered the day I said yes and we promised to spend the rest of our lives together. “

Medical experts fear that vaccines will be less effective against the various strains of the coronavirus – including those in the UK, South Africa and Brazil.
