Alabama man allegedly connected to Oath Keepers arrested for alleged involvement in Capitol riot

A 33-year-old man from Alabama with alleged ties to the far-right militia group The Oath Keepers was arrested on Tuesday for his alleged role in the Capitol uprising, according to court documents.

Joshua James, from Arab, Alabama, was accused of obstructing an official procedure and of helping and abetting, as well as trespassing on restricted buildings or land.

“James and other Oath Keepers invaded the Capitol, forcing the suspension of the Electoral College’s vote certification,” the complaint said.

James is described in the document as wearing a military uniform with an Oath Keepers emblem, signaling his connection to the group. Photos and videos taken after the attack on the Capitol also show James with a group of Oath Keepers.

“The publicly available video shows that after a stormhe Capitol, James met with accused and non-accused individuals affiliated with the Oath Keepers, many of whom also invaded the Capitol, and some of whom James had served throughout January 5 and 6, 2021 “, says the complaint.

Telephone records obtained through a search warrant also placed James on Capitol Hill at the time of the riot. The same records show that he was in contact with other Oath Keepers, many of whom were charged last month.

The Oath Keepers is one of the groups being investigated for their conspiracy to try to prevent January 6 election certification.
