Alabama COVID-19 vaccine clinic administers 400 doses and plans double vaccines on Thursday

A vaccination clinic in Daphne on Tuesday distributed 400 doses of the Modern vaccine, the first such event in Baldwin County.

The clinic, which was overseen by the Alabama Department of Public Health, will restart Thursday with double doses.

Jenni Guerry, a spokesman for the Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency, said people who attend the vaccine clinic at the Daphne Civic Center receive a booking card in person before they can receive the vaccine. She said booking cards will be available on site at 6:30 am on Thursday. The cards will provide details on when someone can return to the photo.

Vaccine clinics are open from 9 am to 3 pm on Thursday and next week on Tuesday, January 26, and Thursday, January 28.

Guerry said reserve cards were beneficial in keeping people at a safe social distance during Tuesday’s clinic.

“It was a way of controlling the crowds,” said Guerry. “Today’s website worked perfectly. Traffic flow was congested at first when they received booking cards. As people returned to designated times, they were grateful that they didn’t have to wait long. “

She added: “Moving forward, we will continue this process, but we will also increase capacity.”

The vaccine is not charged, but individuals must:

• be 75 years or older

• be a member of law enforcement

• be a health worker

• be a firefighter

All individuals who receive a vaccine must provide identification.

Patients arriving at the clinic will have their temperature checked before entering the site.

Guerry said vaccines are available for snow birds 75 and older. Baldwin County is a popular spot for snowbirds from the northern states who are vacationing on the Alabama Gulf Coast.

She said that everyone who receives the vaccine will receive a vaccination card that instructs recipients to return in 28 days to receive a second injection. Guerry said that snowbirds, like everyone else, can receive the second shot in their home state.

“They can pick you up here or come home,” she said. “But they need to take the card with them, so that their doctor will give them the backup for the Modern vaccine.”
