AJ Lawson gets All-SEC recognition

South Carolina playmaker AJ Lawson won a spot on the league coaches’ second All-SEC team on Tuesday, crowning a strong season for juniors and adding to his selection for the freshman team in 2019.

Lawson, who scored his 1000th career point this year, averaged 16.9 points per game – a team high – with 4.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.5 steals. He also had 17 double-digit scores, 10 of which were 20 or more points, and reached his career record (30) against Texas A&M.

The only Gamecock to receive post-season honors, Lawson tested the NBA waters in the previous off-season and will now almost certainly turn pro after increasing his stock after a small drop in sophomore year. It is currently designed by most sites as a second round choice.

Lawson will lead South Carolina with 11th place in the SEC tournament on Thursday at 9:30 pm against Ole Miss, with six seeds.
