A retired US Air Force lieutenant colonel was photographed carrying handcuffs inside the Capitol during last week’s planned hostage rebellion, a federal prosecutor said on Thursday.
By exercising restrictions, Larry Brock “intends to take hostages. He intends to kidnap, restrict, maybe try, maybe execute members of the United States government, ”said Assistant Attorney Jay Weimer.
Weimer, who at Thursday’s hearing argued that Brock should be detained, gave no details of his allegations.
The prosecutor read a post on Brock’s social media on the day of the siege, in which he says: “Patriots on Capitol Hill. Patriots attacking. Armed men must shoot to enter. “
Brock – 53, father of three – was arrested on Sunday. He was accused of intentionally entering or staying in a restricted building or land without legal authority, and of violent entry and disorderly conduct on the Capitol grounds.
He had previously told The New Yorker that he found the zipper cuffs on the floor and intended to hand them over to the police.
Brock’s lawyer, Brook Antonio II, asked an FBI agent who testified on Thursday whether it was possible that his client had caught the handcuffs, as he said. The agent recognized the possibility.
“It’s all talk. It’s all speculation and conjecture, ”said Antonio of the charges against Brock.
On Thursday, a judge released Brock for home confinement. Under the conditions of his release, Brock was ordered to hand over all firearms and his access to the internet will be limited.
“I need to put it on a very short rope,” said Judge Jeffrey Cureton.
“We live in strange times for our country and the concerns raised by the government do not fall on the deaf”.
