Air Force Captain Sarah Kociuba is ready to lead the Super Bowl flyby flight on Sunday, sailing her B-2 Spirit from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri over the Raymond James Stadium in Florida during the national anthem.
“It’s very exciting, I’m very humble,” Kociuba, called “Gucci”, told FOX 13. “We are certainly preparing for this.”

This year’s formation is the first trip of its kind, with three bombers taking off from different parts of America and meeting over the Gulf of Mexico, outside of Tampa’s airspace.
“We have been working for weeks to make this plan very precise, so that we can execute it,” she said. “So, let’s all inform and plan together and make this meeting happen.”
Along with the Kociuba bomber, a B-52 Stratofortress is coming from Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota and a B-1B Lancer is coming from Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota.
“Supporting this event is a great honor for our command and for the United States Air Force,” General Tim Ray, commander of the Air Force’s Global Attack Command, said in a press release. “We look forward to this opportunity to show the reliability, flexibility and accuracy of our bomber fleet to the country during this exciting event.”
Kociuba has prepared for the moment throughout his life.
She is a pilot B-2 pilot who has completed more than 90 combat missions and has more than 1,700 hours of flight time on five different planes.
The bombers will meet in a whiskey area – “restricted airspace” – before the passage.
“We are going back to very low altitude, very high speed and very close together in this area of whiskey, and then we will work our time, and then we will fly over,” she said.

The flight will take about seven or eight hours round trip before the bombers return to their respective bases – meaning that Kociuba is missing out on the big game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs.
“I won’t be able to watch the game, so I hope there are no spoilers before I land,” she said. “I’ll have to watch it later!”
