ORANGEBURG, SC – North Carolina A&T remained perfect at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) on Thursday night, as they crossed for a three-set win over South Carolina State (25-11, 13, 11) at Dukes Gymnasium.
A&T (5-1, 5-0 MEAC) won its fifth straight game with A&T jumping to an 8-2 lead in the first set. The Aggies were never threatened from there. They overcame the Bulldogs 8-1 to take a 20-8 lead with two SCSU attack errors. Macenzie Richards gave the Aggies a 23-9 lead with a kill, and the set ended with a SCSU attack error.
Set # 2 was practically the same. An ace of service from Maya Rembert gave the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead. The Aggies left with four consecutive points to get an 8-4, since they never lost on set. Aggies leadership has grown to double digits in one Tasmyn Fahey Herb tea. The Bulldogs never again achieved leadership under the age of 10 in the second year Addy Warfield ended the set with an ace.
The Aggies’ double-digit lead came quickly in the third set, when they jumped to a 17-7 lead thanks to three consecutive aces of Mallory Porcher. SCSU took the lead below 10 on 17-8 on an Aggies service error, but senior Edie Brewer responded with a kill to push the lead back to 10.
With the Aggies leading 21-10, the set and game ended with a 4-1 Aggies streak culminating in Fahey ‘s death to keep the Aggies winning.
The Aggies remain in Orangeburg to face SCSU at 1pm on Friday.
