COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M’s No. 7 equestrian team closed its autumn list in style with a 13-7 victory over South Carolina’s No. 3 on Thursday at the Hildebrand Equine Complex.
The Aggies took home three Most Distinguished Player (MOP) awards by winning three of the four events. With the victory, the Aggies improved to 1-2 in the year, while South Carolina dropped to 0-2.
“I am very proud of our girls and how they have handled the past seven days,” said trainer Tana McKay. “We had three difficult encounters last week and the girls worked very well together. We had great races today and it was great to have our first competition at home of the season ”.
In Fences, junior Grace Boston won the first point by defeating Louisa Brackett, 83-80, and was named MOP. Junior Haley Redifer followed with a 15 point win over Alexa Aureliano, 79-64. Senior Caroline Dance gave the Aggies a 3-2 lead in the event, beating Caroline Bald 76-68.
Texas A&M extended its lead to 7-3 at the break after beating Reining 4-1. Junior Lisa Bricker overcame Graycen Hess, 66.5-65, before sophomore year Emmy-Lu Marsh defeated Emma Lane, 66-63. Senior Shelby Reine scored 68.5, beating Chloe Stephenson’s 65. Senior Marissa Harrell concluded Reining with a dominant 68.5-57 victory over Chloe Stephenson.
After the break, Maroon & White continued to roll with a 4-1 victory in Flat. Junior Nicole Leonard opened with 77 against 73 for Billi Brandner. Senior Mali Selman knocked out Kit Cunningham, 72-69, and Rhian Murphy senior knocked out Louisa Brackett, 74-68. Dance recorded his second MOP of the season and his third win by defeating Trinity Hammerschmidt 74-70.
Junior Hayley Riddle improved to 3-0 and got his first MOP of the season after the 76-72 triumph over Cora Wyers in Horsemanship. Senior Cameron Crenwelge scored the final point for Aggies, beating Alexa Thorpe, 75.5-73.
