Aggie’s softball prepares for SEC home series No. 23 South Carolina

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M softball welcomes the No. 23 of South Carolina to the Davis Diamond friendlies for a three-game series that begins on Friday.

Friday’s competition is scheduled to start at 6:30 pm with Saturday and Sunday games scheduled for a first pitch at 3:00 pm and 12:00 pm. All three games can be streamed on SEC Network + and the radio broadcast can be heard locally on 97.3 FM and worldwide within the free 12th Man Mobile app. Search for “12th Man Mobile” within the App Store or Google Play to download.

Texas A&M returns to Aggieland after a 1-2 trip to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, while Maroon & White won the first game of the series against No. 12 LSU, 2-1. Makinzy Herzog launched the full seven entries, giving up just two strokes and hitting six. Morgan Smith made his first home run of the season, as junior won 2 out of 3, while Ashlynn Walls collected insurance.

Maroon & White enter the series with a 20-5 ledger (1-2 SEC) and are led offensively by Haley Lee and Bre Warren. Lee leads the team in several offensive categories, including batting average (0.446), runs (20), batting (29) and home runs (10). Warren accumulated a .381 batting average, with two triples and 12 RBI.

The pitching team recorded 11 shutouts in the year. Herzog and Kelsey Broadus are tied for third in the SEC with two saves, along with Herzog in second in the ERA. Kayla Poynter is currently at 5-1, while Grace Uribe is at the 4-1 mark.

The Aggies maintain the SEC lead in shutouts, doubles and doubles per game, while they are second in the country in shutouts and sixth in doubles. Seven Aggies are in double digits on the RBI, with Herzog and Lee each accumulating 21. Lee delivered nine games from multiple successes, while Herzog posted eight.

South Carolina enters the series with a record of 17-7 (0-3 SEC) and is led in the scout box by Mackenzie Boesel and Kenzi Maguire. Boesel leads the team with an average of 0.448 and nine doubles, while beating 22 races. Maguire raises an average of 0.415 with two home runs and 24 RBI. In the circle, Leah Oh holds a 5-0 ledger with an ERA of 1.84.

Aggie led the 24-15 overall series and holds a 9-3 record at Bryan-College Station.
