After the ‘soft launch’ on Friday, second doses of the vaccine start on Monday at 2 sites administered by the city

JACKSONVILLE, Florida. – The city team is preparing to give a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to 12,000 people who received their first injection at one of Jacksonville’s senior centers.

A few hundred people received their second chance on Friday at Lane Wiley or the Mandarin Senior Center, in which Mayor Lenny Curry called for a smooth launch.

“(We) identify people to make a smooth launch, which is smart because, again, we’re all new to it. What we have demonstrated at the municipal level, whether by distributing stimulus checks, testing and now – vaccine, ”said Curry.

The two locals stopped giving the first doses of the vaccine a week ago, after the city’s supply ran out. The city maintained enough stock to give those who received the first injection a second dose at the same location, starting on Monday.

“These are only for city sites and are only available to those who received their first dose at one of these sites,” said Curry.

Those who have already taken the first doses in these places must bring the identification and registration form of the injection they received when receiving the first injection.

To save time, the city also asks those receiving the second dose to bring the COVID-19 screening and consent form, which can be found here. Printed forms will also be available at the centers.

Here is an analysis of how scheduling will work:

Curry said the city could reopen the sites for the first doses again when more supplies are available.

“It’s easy to get frustrated, the situation is what it is now,” said Curry. “A very large organized effort that has to take place in all the United States, in all states and in all cities and counties. So my goal is to build relationships and work with people, to get the vaccine to people in Jacksonville as quickly as possible. “
