LAGRANGE, Ind. (AP) – Peace, love – and LaGrange.

Indiana’s LaGrange County repealed a 1971 law that intended to block large gatherings, such as the 1969 Woodstock music festival in New York State.

“I called it our anti-hippie decree,” said county commissioner Dennis Kratz with a smile.

The decree regulated large meetings that lasted more than 12 hours and involved more than 500 people, reported The News Sun.

The law was recently abandoned as part of an effort to repeal decrees that have no practical use but have been in the books for more than 100 years, especially certain traffic restrictions. Prosecutor Kurt Bachman’s research took three years.

“There were, during this process, a lot of things that made us think, ‘what?’ … It was an incredible learning process, ”said Bachman, whose goal was to turn county laws into an electronic, searchable record.

The county is in northern Indiana, along the Michigan border.
