Expectations are high for the next AEW Revolution pay per display.
The promotion has booked a card loaded with nine matches (including a pre-show match) and is promising additional surprises in addition to the previously announced matches. The six-man “Face of the Revolution” ladder match will feature a mysterious opponent. This week in Dynamite, the newly signed Paul Wight appeared and caused a big announcement for Revolution.
AEW President Tony Khan said about the Unrestricted AEW podcast that “a big star in the world of wrestling, a big, big star, will come and sign a multi-year contract with AEW” in Revolution. The fans are already speculating wildly about who it could be.
In the main event, AEW champion Kenny Omega will face Jon Moxley in a deadly fight with explosive barbed wire. It is a format that originated in Japan in the 90s and Omega, a connoisseur of Japanese wrestling, is eager to introduce you to a new audience.
“There will be a certain level of excitement and even anxiety watching this match, a level of curiosity that will not let you look away,” said Omega Sports illustratedit’s Justin Barrasso earlier this week. “This will be a more visceral experience, where many of the senses, the ones you don’t normally use when watching wrestling, are intensified.”
Revolution is AEW’s first pay-per-view on a Sunday. While WWE hosts its subscription events on Sundays, AEW has historically scheduled its four annual PPVs on Saturdays. Revolution was originally scheduled for Saturday, February 27, but would have been moved because Canelo Álvarez was scheduled to fight Avni Yildirim that night. Saturday, March 6, is the same night as UFC 259, hence AEW’s unusual Sunday PPV slot.
