AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT ratings are stable, despite unopposed programs

On a night when AEW Dynamite aired two hours later than normal due to NBA basketball at TNT, the program had its normal audience and exactly the same 18-49 demo rating the week before.

Last night’s Holiday Bash edition of Dynamite averaged 775,000 viewers on TNT, down 3.8 percent from last week. The classification in demonstration 18-49 remained unchanged at 0.32.

NXT on the US network, running unopposed, had an average of 698,000 viewers. That is 8.9 percent below last week. NXT also obtained the same rating of 0.19 in last week’s 18-49 demo.

Dynamite and NXT were competing against basketball games that drew far more audiences than any of the wrestling programs. The initial game on TNT averaged 2.003 million viewers and a rating of 0.80 on the 18-49 demo, while the last game on ESPN drew 1.215 million viewers and a rating of 0.52 on 18-49. NXT and the early part of Dynamite also faced competition from a college football game on ESPN that averaged 1.271 million viewers with a 0.35 demo rating.

Basketball games were the two highest-rated programs on the cable TV charts in 18-49, and college football ranked fourth. Dynamite finished fifth and NXT finished 40th.

As usual, NXT lost all demos, except for people over 50. NXT had a 0.36 to 0.28 advantage over Dynamite in that category. Dynamite’s strongest demonstration was the 18- to 49-year-old male, where the show had a rating of 0.44 and finished fourth on cable TV behind the NBA and college football games. Dynamite more than tripled the NXT in men 12-34. Dynamite obtained a rating of 0.27 in this category against 0.08 by NXT.

Year after year, NXT fell 16 percent in viewers and 13.6 percent in the demo. Dynamite did not have a show this week last year because Wednesday fell on Christmas Day.

Here’s a look at the last 10 weeks of viewing and 18-49 demo ratings for Dynamite and NXT:
