Adams Co. employees rescue animals from ‘build-up box’

COUNTY DE ADAMS, Ohio – More than a dozen animals have been rescued from what Adams County officials are calling an “accumulation case”.

Adams County Dog Warden officials said the animals, including dogs and chickens, were found in a mobile home the weekend after the home owner died. As soon as the dog keeper found the animals, they called the Humane Society for help.

Jessica Huxmann, of the Humane Society of Adams County, said the smell of ammonia and urine made it almost impossible for rescuers to breathe indoors.

Inside the house, the garbage was piled almost five feet high, some animals were between 20 and 30 centimeters from what the authorities believe to be newspapers and feces and three malnourished Chihuahuas roamed freely. Outside the home, three sick dogs were found.

Many of the animals go to the vet on Monday to update themselves and assess their overall health. Despite their living conditions, many dogs are considered friendly to people.

Huxmann said the Humane Society offers help to pet owners to prevent situations like this from happening.

“There are organizations that can help,” said Huxmann. “We offer free food to people who are struggling to feed a pet. If they need to rehome a pet, there are organizations like ours that can help relocate it.”

If you are interested in promoting some of these animals, once they are released for adoption, or if you would like to donate to help with veterinarian fees, contact the Humane Society of Adams County.
