Twenty-five years ago, the world was introduced to famous athletes Happy Gilmore– a former hockey player with a knack for throwing golf balls hard and screaming angrily at an adult baby when he is upset. Now, to mark the date when Gilmore first made himself known to the world, Adam Sandler – and a pair of his character’s enemies – have returned to their own roles on social media.
Sandler tweeted a video for the movie’s birthday yesterday, showing him experiencing Gilmore’s swing slapshot again. “It’s been 25 years since I did this,” he says, moving away from the camera. “Let’s see what happens.” He dedicates the shot to his enemy, Sniper McGavin, punches the ball and then comes back to say, “You’re dead, Sniper” and makes one of those laughs from Adam Sandler that we know so well.
In response, Ben “A goblet shut up” Stiller answered threaten grandma Gilmore like Hal, the evil janitor.

Not to be outdone, Christopher McDonald jumped with a clip of him demonstrating his placement skills. McDonald, more than Sandler or Stiller, dives back into the character. He prepares his shot in front of a jar of canning, announcing: “Drive to the show, hit the dough”, then congratulates yourself and repeats your joke invitation for “the 9th green at 9” (Subway’s Twitter account also responded “legendary” to that, but we won’t link that; they already got the product placement they paid for a quarter of a century ago in the film.)
So far, Carl Weathers hasn’t shown up to cheer us up with a hello from the deceased Chubbs, but we will not use this against him. It’s probably more difficult for him to get back in character than the rest of the cast, with the need to have his hand bitten by a crocodile to rediscover his motivation and everything.
